Meet Elena

Elena is a striking young Mastín cross, with a beautiful brindle-and-white coat and the soulful expression that makes you want to stop and get to know her. She is a sweet, gentle girl who likes to take life at her own pace and is still learning that she can relax and enjoy the good things that come her way.

You will often find Elena stretched out in a shady spot, quietly watching all the comings and goings around her. Approach gently and, once she knows you, she may decide that some fuss is acceptable. Spend a little more time with her and you might even be lucky enough to discover her secret pleasure - the belly rub. Elena has clearly worked out that this is one of life’s very best inventions, and once she relaxes enough to roll over and offer you her tummy, it feels like a real privilege.

She is always interested in what is happening at the gate and will usually get up to investigate when someone new arrives. Once she is out on a walk, she settles nicely and walks well on the lead. She does need someone who will give her time to adjust to new situations and allow her to take things at her own pace. She mixes happily with the dogs she knows in her pack, but is naturally more cautious around dogs she hasn't met before.

Elena has already experienced life in a home. She spent six months with her first family, but sadly it wasn't the right fit and she eventually came back to us. Returning to the shelter after knowing what it was like to have a home of her own has been stressful for her, and we would love nothing more than to see her given another chance - this time with someone who understands her gentle nature and is prepared to let her settle in gradually.

Mastín crosses are often loyal, thoughtful dogs who form strong bonds with their people. Elena may not be the dog who charges over to greet everyone she meets, but that makes the trust she gives all the more meaningful. There is a lovely dog waiting to emerge as she becomes more secure, and we think the person who earns that trust will discover just how special she can be.
