Meet Karina

Karina is a stunning Spanish Mastin with beautiful markings, a gorgeous face and the most soulful, expressive eyes. Found abandoned and wandering around the Estepona area, she arrived at ADANA unsure of what the future might hold...

Karina can be a little cautious when meeting someone new, but give her a little time and let her come to you, and you will soon discover what a gentle and affectionate girl she is. Once she trusts you, she absolutely loves being stroked and will lean happily into your attention. And if you dare to stop before she thinks you're finished, don't be surprised if a gentle paw appears to remind you that there is still more petting required! It is one of those little Karina moments that is impossible not to smile at.

She is a naturally curious girl too. Karina likes to have a good sniff, take her time and keep an eye on what is happening around her. And really, this is just part of being a Mastin. Traditionally, Spanish Mastins were bred as livestock guardian dogs, working independently to watch over flocks and make their own decisions. They tend to be observant, calm and quietly confident, rather than constantly looking for something to do. They are often incredibly loyal to their people and, once they know and trust you, can be wonderfully gentle and affectionate companions.

Karina certainly seems to have inherited those qualities. She gets along well with the other dogs and has formed a particularly sweet friendship with Nolan, her penmate and usual walking companion. She is good on the lead, although she may be a little wary when first setting off. Once she's settled though, she becomes a lovely walking partner, simply plodding contentedly along beside you, stopping now and then for an important sniff or to check out what is happening in the world.

There is something very special about walking alongside a Mastin. They don't necessarily need to be charging ahead or covering huge distances. They are perfectly happy to take life at their own pace, enjoying the smells, the surroundings and, most importantly, the company of their person. Karina would love someone who appreciates that quieter way of enjoying life and is happy to give her the time and patience she needs to build her trust.

And once that trust is there, you may find yourself with a very large, very beautiful shadow who likes nothing more than being close to you – preferably alongside receiving an endless supply of ear scratches and cuddles.

Karina is waiting to meet someone who will see beyond the initial caution and take the time to discover the wonderful girl underneath. Come and meet her, take her for a walk and spend a little time getting to know her. We have a feeling that once Karina decides you're one of her people, you'll decide she´s part of your life too.
