Panther

A sleek and magnificent Pointer cross, he arrived as a puppy, in poor health, 3 years ago. He was initially incredibly timid and anxious and it took volunteers over a year to persuade him to walk.

Fast forward, 3 years, and he is unrecognisable; a sweet and gentle character, well-socialised with other dogs and becoming increasingly confident when meeting new people.

He behaves very well on a lead, rarely pulling, once his initial excitement has passed, and it is not uncommon (on quiet days, and isolated paths) for some of his favourite volunteers to allow him off the lead.

One volunteer reported, "Panther’s initial reaction was to look, pointedly, back at the lead, and then at me, and then back at the lead, again, as if more concerned by my misbehaviour than the potential freedom with which he’d been presented. At no time did he stray, at all, although he clearly conveyed his concern that there was now nothing stopping me from running off and causing mischief, for which he might be held responsible."

Spending just a little time with Panther, in order to gain his trust, reveals a gentle, well-socialised, affectionate and magnificent dog.
