Zara

Meet Zara, a beautiful young Mastín/Labrador cross who was found in Manilva and brought to Adana.

Arriving in good health, she was nervous for approximately five seconds, shy for less than a day, and then her Labrador side apparently decided it was time to take over! Her natural friendliness, curiosity and enthusiasm for making new friends have helped her settle remarkably quickly, and she soon made herself completely at home in the bustle of shelter life.

From day one, Zara has been perfectly happy sharing her pen with an eclectic collection of shelter characters. Huge or tiny, puppy or adult, confident or cautious - she really doesn’t seem to care. Breed, size and social standing appear to be of absolutely no interest to her; if there is a dog willing to play, Zara is happy to join in. She enjoys hanging out with our super-energetic adolescents and will happily join their games, but she is certainly not the one responsible for starting all the mayhem. She is equally content to wander about at her own pace, displaying the more laid-back side of her Mastín heritage.

She also loves her walkies and is pretty good on the lead - there is plenty to investigate, of course - every interesting smell deserves a thorough sniff, while the Mastín in her makes sure she keeps a close eye on the surrounding landscape. She enjoys meeting people too, and is very happy to wander over for some attention and lean in for a good stroke. And when we say lean, we should perhaps point out that Zara is rather tall - this is not a pup who can discreetly tuck herself under your arm!

The combination of Labrador and Mastín seems to have given Zara a lovely balance of sociability and easy-going calm. She enjoys people, dogs, walks and a bit of fun, but she is also perfectly happy simply pottering along and taking in the world around her. Although already proving to be a super girl with no particular issues that we have seen, she hasn’t exactly graduated from the School of Household Etiquette yet, so her future family will need to give her patient, consistent guidance as she learns all the rules of your home - where not to put those enormous paws, what not to investigate, how to behave when visitors arrive, and all the other little things that make up everyday life. And, as with any rescue dog, there may be a few quirks still waiting to reveal themselves once she discovers just how much there is to explore beyond the shelter.

The best way to get to know Zara is to come and meet her - preferably with your walking shoes on. Take this very tall, friendly girl out for a stroll at her own pace and you’ll soon see why she has made such a lovely impression on everyone here.
