Meet Daniella

Daniella and her best friend Kali were found wandering together out in the campo, cold, wet and desperately hungry. Thankfully, they were brought to Adana, where they could finally get somewhere warm, some food and the care they so desperately needed. Kali was fortunate to arrive in good health, but poor Daniella was in a truly dreadful state.

She was missing one eye and suffering from leishmania, a disease transmitted by the bite of an infected sand fly. Some of Daniella’s arrival photographs are difficult to look at, and they show just how much this poor girl had been through. But they are also part of her story - because look at her now.

Daniella is around three years old and a Turco crossbreed, with a lovely cream coat that, after several months of care, is looking unbelievably better. She is currently enjoying the comforts of foster care, where she can concentrate on getting stronger and healthier before eventually being reunited with Kali. And throughout all of this, Daniella has shown us what a little fighter she is. Even when she was clearly in pain and discomfort, she would wag her tail when we were treating her. Somehow, despite everything she had endured, she still had room for trust and affection.

These days, Daniella adores company. She loves having people around, enjoys attention and is always ready for a nice walkies. There is something incredibly touching about seeing her now - not the frightened, neglected dog who arrived at our gates, but a girl beginning to discover that life can be kind to her too.

Daniella’s recovery is a work in progress, and she will need a family who understands that her health will require ongoing care and monitoring. But what she gives back is already clear to see: affection, companionship and that wonderful wagging tail that never gave up on us.
