Dixon

Meet Dixon

Dixon is one of those lovely dogs who has so much to offer, yet somehow seems to have been quietly overlooked. He is a friendly, gentle boy with a wonderful zest for life, and despite being a middle-aged gentleman, there is still plenty of fun and mischief in him.

Dixon was found wandering near the motorway and brought to ADANA by the police. Since then, he has made the shelter his world, getting to know the staff and volunteers, enjoying his walks and making the most of every opportunity for attention and a bit of fun. He is an affectionate boy who really appreciates having someone spend time with him. A walk, a fuss, a game or simply being close to people are the things that make Dixon happiest.

And he does love to play! Dixon is always interested in what is happening around him and is quite happy to join in when there is a ball involved. He and his penmate Kira have become great friends and can often be found enjoying a good-natured play fight, testing each other's tug-of-war skills or simply keeping an eye on the latest shelter happenings together. Dixon enjoys the company of other dogs and has a lovely sociable side.

He is an intelligent boy too, and one who would really benefit from having a home where he can use his mind, enjoy regular walks and be involved in everyday life. He is energetic for his age, but he certainly isn't looking for a marathon runner! A couple of enjoyable walks, some playtime, companionship and plenty of affection would suit Dixon perfectly. He has the enthusiasm to enjoy life, without needing to be constantly on the go.

As a German Shepherd cross, Dixon has that wonderful combination of intelligence, loyalty and character, but he is a lovely medium size and very manageable. And then there are those gorgeous amber eyes – the kind that seem to follow you around, just waiting to see if perhaps you are the person who has come to spend some time with him.

There is something particularly special about adopting a middle-aged dog. Dixon has grown into himself; his personality is there for you to discover, his puppy chaos is well behind him, and he knows how wonderful it is to have a trusted person by his side. What he needs now is the chance to experience all the ordinary things he has been missing – a soft bed, a favourite spot in the house, walks that don't end at the shelter gates, and someone who is simply his.

Dixon has waited patiently while life has passed him by. But spend a little time with him and you quickly see that he isn't a dog who has given up. He still wants to play, still loves attention, still enjoys his walks and still has that wonderful spark in his eyes.

He has so much life left to live. Perhaps the best part of Dixon's story is still waiting to be written – with you.
