Meet Fanta

Fanta was found wandering close to us in Los Pedregales, still just a puppy really at around nine months old, but already in a desperately poor condition. She was malnourished and suffering from advanced mange, with hardly any fur left and skin so badly damaged that she has ulcerated areas and even raw flesh. It is difficult to imagine how uncomfortable and miserable she must be right now, but thankfully her story has taken a turn for the better from the moment she was found.

One of our wonderful foster volunteers immediately offered to take Fanta home and give her the care she so urgently needed. She is now receiving veterinary treatment, medication, good food and, perhaps most importantly, the chance to rest somewhere safe and comfortable while her body begins to heal. We also made an urgent appeal for help with her veterinary bills, and we have been incredibly grateful for the many kind donations that have come in to help cover the cost of her treatment.

A dog with mange can look quite alarming - hair loss, crusting, redness and raw skin can make them appear extremely unwell - but this does not necessarily mean the condition is permanent. With the right treatment and care, dogs can recover, and as the skin heals, the fur can gradually grow back. For Fanta, there is still a road ahead of her, and it may take weeks or even months before we see the full extent of her recovery, but she is now in the right place to begin that journey.

For now, Fanta’s priority is simply getting better. We’ll be keeping a close eye on her progress and sharing pupdates as she continues her treatment. We’re hoping that before too long, the little girl who arrived with barely a coat to her name will be showing us the happy, healthy young dog that has been underneath it all along.
