Meet Phoebe

A Boxer-Podenco cross? A Boxedenco, surely! Definitely not a Poxer — we checked.

Phoebe is a lovely girl, with a face full of endearing expressions and a naturally curious nature. She can be shy and a little unsure of people at first, and this is particularly noticeable when you meet her in her pen. There, despite happily sharing her space with some fairly large and boisterous boys as well as a couple of more timid girls, Phoebe can appear rather anxious and submissive, quietly watching the world from the sidelines.

But then the lead goes on… and you begin to see another side of Phoebe.

It isn't a dramatic transformation so much as a gentle awakening. Out on a walk, her nose goes down, her tail comes up and her curiosity starts to take over. She clearly enjoys being out and about, taking in all the smells and sights, and keeping one hopeful eye open for the possibility of a treat. Little by little, that tentative girl from the pen begins to fade into the background, replaced by a happier, more confident and affectionate Phoebe.

Once she knows and trusts you, Phoebe is a sweet and happy girl who really enjoys human company. She is also very good with other dogs, so she certainly isn't looking for a life of solitude. Her challenge is simply getting past those first feelings of uncertainty and giving herself permission to relax and show you who she really is.

We think Phoebe is one of those dogs who will reward patience enormously. She doesn't need someone to rush her or expect instant confidence — she needs someone willing to take things at her pace, build her trust and let her personality gradually emerge. Give her a little time, a few walks, some tasty encouragement and a person she can believe in, and you may discover that the shy girl you first met is actually a happy, curious little adventurer just waiting for the confidence to come out and play.
