Meet Tribute...

Some dogs will rush up to greet you, demand attention and have you wrapped around their little paws in minutes. Tribute is not one of those dogs - at least, not yet. Found abandoned with his siblings, he arrived at Adana over four years ago as a puppy, already convinced that the safest place in the world was behind something, anything, that might help him disappear. And while many of our long-term residents gradually relax into shelter life, Tribute has sadly continued to keep most people at arm's length.

But there's more to Tribute than that cautious first impression. He's comfortable around his pen mates, curious about the daily comings and goings, and always ready to investigate what's happening around him. He'll approach when given time and space, and the appearance of the leads is usually enough to pique his interest. He clearly enjoys his walks, and once he's out and about, he's a lovely companion on the lead - no pulling you down the track or dragging you off on an expedition! Sudden noises can still startle him, though, and he'll need someone who understands that confidence isn't built overnight.

Tribute may not be the dog who throws himself into your arms on your first visit, and we don't want to pretend otherwise. He needs a patient, understanding person who won't rush him or expect instant affection, but who will give him the opportunity to discover that human company can be a good thing. Let him approach in his own time, allow him to decide when he's ready for a gentle stroke or a cuddle, and you may find yourself rewarded with something truly special - a dog who begins to trust you because you've given him the freedom to make that choice. Shelter life doesn't always allow us to see how a quieter, more reserved dog might blossom in a home of his own, with a consistent routine and someone he can learn to rely on.

And that rather comical, slightly disgruntled expression of his? Don't be fooled! Tribute looks as though he's got a formal complaint to make, but underneath that cross look is a sweet boy who deserves the chance to feel safe and secure.
