Bianca

Meet Bianca

Bianca is a pretty white and tan Podenco (or Pod, as we like to call them in the biz), with a wonderfully soft, silky coat that is every bit as lovely to snuggle into as she enjoys being snuggled. But let’s rewind a few years…

She was found wandering in the Estepona countryside, malnourished and frightened of anything that moved. She was absolutely terrified when she arrived at Adana, and for the first week her favourite hiding place was behind her little bed, where she would disappear whenever anyone came near. She needed time, patience and, as it turned out, some very good canine friends.

We put her into a pen with some little companions, and gradually the frightened girl began to discover that perhaps the world wasn’t quite as scary as she had thought. Fast forward a few years and Bianca has undergone the most wonderful change. She is now playful, happy and absolutely delighted to see everyone in the morning, greeting us all with a waggy tail, a huge grin and a determined attempt to get as much attention as possible. Cleaning her pen can be quite a challenge because Bianca considers someone coming into her space to be an excellent opportunity for cuddles, and will happily lean into you for more fuss when you are supposed to be doing something else. She has a wonderful knack of putting a smile right back on the faces of everyone she meets.

She also gets incredibly excited when it’s time for walkies and is pretty good on the lead. Out and about, she loves investigating every fascinating smell, checking out any signs of life and taking in the landscape. There is plenty of classic Pod character in Bianca - curious, alert and endlessly interested in the world around her. Podencos are a very special part of Spanish life, and sadly many find themselves needing rescue after being abandoned when no longer wanted for hunting. Yet they can be wonderfully affectionate, playful and entertaining companions, and Bianca is a lovely example of just how much love and personality can emerge when one of these sensitive dogs is given the chance to feel safe.

For anyone who remembers the frightened little Podenco hiding behind her bed, the Bianca we see today is almost difficult to believe. She has discovered that people can be trusted, that walks are exciting, that cuddles are definitely worth asking for and that being the centre of attention is actually rather enjoyable. She has come such a long way, and watching her turn from a frightened little shadow into this happy, affectionate, tail-wagging girl has been one of those rescue stories that reminds us exactly why we do what we do... Come and meet her - maybe you´ll be able to give this precious Pod her perfect pad.
