Meet Rufus!

Rufus is one of ten mixed-breed Spanish Water Dog puppies (six females and four males) who were sadly found abandoned in a crate by the gate to the track leadingm up to Adana. Despite this terrible start, the puppies are in excellent health, very curious, and already showing their affectionate and playful nature. At just seven weeks old, they are still very small, but their personalities are already beginning to shine through.

Spanish Water Dogs are known for being incredibly intelligent, loyal, and fun-loving. Traditionally bred in Spain as working dogs on farms and for retrieving objects from the water, they enjoy companionship and love being part of the family. They are energetic, eager to learn, and form very strong bonds with their owners. Although a crossbreed, Rufus is likely to inherit that wonderful combination of intelligence, affection, and playful spirit that makes Spanish Water Dogs such rewarding companions. He will grow up to be a dog who enjoys adventures, games, cuddles on the couch, and participating in everyday life.

There are some fascinating things about Spanish Water Dogs that you might not know! Their distinctive curly coat was traditionally never brushed - instead, over time, the hair naturally formed cords, almost like a cross between a poodle and dreadlocks. Historically, they were used not only for herding sheep and goats but also for assisting fishermen by retrieving nets and lost items from the water - they are excellent swimmers. They are also highly valued for their problem-solving abilities and quick learning, which means they excel at agility, tracking, and interactive games. Life with a "Turco Andaluz" is rarely dull!

Owning a puppy is a long-term commitment, and active, intelligent breeds like Spanish Water Dogs need training, socialization, exercise, and lots of love as they grow.
